Eventide: Slavic Fable Review

Share Review

I’ve mentioned before that i enjoy the Point & Click adventure genre, but it appears there has been a rise of a sub-genre of this, i like to call it the hidden object/puzzle genre. Essentially what you do is move between each scene completing a series of puzzle and hidden object game to progress the plot along. I recently reviewed a title that would fit this genre i.e. Nightmares from the Deep 2: The Siren’s Call and i think Eventide: Slavic Fable will be a very similar game.

You take control of a young woman as she tries to find and rescue her grandmother from a dangerous foe known as, Boruta. Your grandmother runs a slavic themed theme park. As you begin to investigate you come across the many secrets that are contained within such as a bunch of talking animals. The plot to Eventide: Slavic Fable gives it an engaging start with a sense of urgency which it unfortunately loses as you meander from scene to scene. At the heart of the story is a fern you must uncover and use to save your grandmother.

In Eventide: Slavic Fable you point and move from one scene to another attempting to pass puzzles to progress the story. There’s a fair amount of going back and forth as you uncover new items that can be used to unlock areas in previous locations. There’s a hint system in place which will ‘advise’ where you should go in case you get a little lost, it’s quite hard not to know where you’re going but it’s obviously useful. Progressing through Eventide: Slavic Fable is through a series of merging objects, completing hidden object games and beating puzzles. When you discover a hidden object game all you do is click on the objects that look like the objects you are required to find (there’s no reason given why you’re either having to do a hidden puzzle game or an explanation of why you need a particular item).

The backgrounds are drawn to a high quality and appear really polished, the characters you interactive are not quite drawn to the same quality though. Sound wise Eventide: Slavic Fable sets the scene accordingly and helps create the mysterious atmosphere of the theme park. The little animals characters are cute to look at but don’t actually possess that much character to keep you engaged with their plight.

Eventide: Slavic Fable like many games of its ilk is a fairly straightforward title to get through, you can choose different difficulties but they don’t make much of a difference, you just wait longer for hints. You can make Eventide: Slavic Fable a very short game by skipping the mini games, you shouldn’t really but it can be tempting because there will be a point where you want to fast-forward the adventure. You can collect cards and flowers but all they do it unlock trophies. When you complete the game you unlock another adventure where you have to find a cure for your mum, it’s just an extension of the same story and can be completed in half an hour.

Eventide: Slavic Fable is a reasonable point and click adventure that is worth a couple of hours of your time if you enjoy the less taxing games of the genre. The hidden puzzle games are interesting to begin with but lose that novelty feeling quite quickly. Eventide: Slavic Fable is another decent addition to the puzzle and hidden object genre but it doesn’t offer anything new. There are better games out there such as the recently reviewed Nightmares from the Deep 2: The Siren’s Call.
